About Us, Your Wangaratta Gas Fitters

The business operates from Wangaratta and covers the surrounding towns, out to about half an hour away. Gas heating, evaporative cooling and gas hot water, and nothing else. That’s a deliberate choice rather than a gap in the list.

Gas work is licensed work. Matthew and the team are licensed gas fitters, and the licence number is listed further down this page so you can check it before you let anyone near your meter.

Prices are published for a simple reason. Ringing four places for quotes on a heater service is a waste of a Saturday morning, and most people just want to know what it costs.

The same goes for what we don’t do. Split systems, refrigerated cooling and electric hot water are all listed plainly on this page, because being told on the phone beats finding out after someone has driven out.

Family history

The business is new. The family is not. Matthew’s family has worked in gas for more than a century and a half, starting with Robert Menzies Swinton.

Robert was hired in Scotland by the Melbourne Gas and Coke Company and sailed out in 1856 with his wife and four children to build the company’s first retort house. His home in North Melbourne became a meeting place for people involved in the early days of the Metropolitan Gas Company, and his descendants have worked in the industry ever since.

One of them, Wal Swinton, started out as a meter reader and finished up forty years later. The tools have changed a fair bit since then. The work has not.

Matthew answers the phone and books the job, and the same small crew does the work.

We tell you straight away

If your unit is past saving, we say so rather than sell you a service you don't need.

We turn up when we say

You get a day and a time window. If something changes, we ring you, not the other way around.
